An archive record is one or more items of material (usually digitised) from the physical archive that form a single entry in the archive catalogue. An archive record comprises a number of parts:
- a main title,
- a digital copy of the original material, such as a picture or document (note that text only records have no digital file),
- a general description or information about the record,
- specific information about the record - the record details,
- digital copies of any associated materials, such as further pictures or documents from a set, and their general and specific details,
- any comments that have been made by site visitors about the record.
There are also different types of archive record. Each record type is displayed in its own frame.

Village Green West Decision Notice
Yes to both!
All of the archive documents have been subjected to optical character recognition (OCR) following digitisation. The OCR engine used is Tesseract. This means that an automated attempt has been made to supplement the digitised document image with readable text and that text has been included as a separate layer in the resulting document PDF file.
When viewing the PDF file, the embeded PDF reader you are using (this is dependant on your web browser) may have a Search option that will enable you to search the document for specified words or phrases. This Search option works on the document text layer. If your browser PDF reader does not have a search option, then download the document file to your local device and open it with your preferred PDF reader. There are examples of freely available PDF readers below in the page footer.
You can also extract all of the document text at once by selecting all the document content and copying it to your device clipboard. Open your preferred text editor, e.g. Microsoft Word or Google Docs ect., and paste in the clipboard contents. You should then see all of the text created by the OCR process.
Note that OCR works reasonably well on clear typed text but the results can be varied on faint typed and handwritten text.
