Types of Archive Record
The website supports the following types of archive record:
- audio - usually recordings converted to .mp3 file format
- document - usually single or multi-page papers scanned or photographed and saved in.pdf file format
- image - usually photos scanned and saved in .jpg file format
- text - usually a text extract or specifically written text with no source material
- video - usually recordings converted to .mp4 file format
When a record is displayed on the record details page, if there is a source material file attached to the record, the file is displayed in an appropriate frame for the record type. The record type is determined by the file type specified for the record.
Audio and video files are displayed in their respective player frames. Documents are displayed in a PDF reader frame. Images are displayed in the standard HTML image element. When there is no source material file attached to the record, only the text is displayed.
PDF Reader Fallback
A PDF reader capability is built into most modern web browsers. It is possible however, that a site visitor may use a browser without pdf reader capability. In such cases, the pdf frame is replaced by a text link to the source material file which site visitors can follow to download or display the file in a reader of their choice on their local machine. The options available to a site visitor in this scenario are dependent upon their browser settings and locally installed applications.
