Scanning Prerequisites
The main aims of the scanning process are:
- to achieve the best quality scan possible and to be consistent in the quality,
- to be consistent in the scan sizing and reduce cropping to a minimum (this can result in minor variations in the size of the finished scan and is accentuated when displayed on the web).
Only scan material that is suitable for scanning. Material in excess of A4 in size or that is bound so that it will not lay flat should be passed for photographing.
- Use an A4 flatbed scanner.
- Ensure that the glass screen is clean and free from marks or debris.
- Place the material to be scanned in the corner of the screen tight against both edges. This will produce a perpendicular result that does not require deskewing (NAPS2 will auto deskew if required). The scanner should have an indicator as to the correct corner to align the material. OCR results are also better when the scan is not skewed.
- Use of the NAPS2 scanning software is recommended. See the NAPS2 document for further information.
